Chapter 4

A

“An aged and beautiful gentlemen” describes Carew’s innocence and how he caused no harm to anyone. As he was beaten with a cane it shows that Hyde has no respect for human nature. The broken cane symbolises how Jekyll is broken/split into two different parts of himself. The theme good vs evil is a moving vehicle throughout the novel.
