Quiz Two Flashcards
Six pieces of equipment used to elevate & prepare arteries/veins for injection/drainage and each items purpose.
- Locking Forceps: clamp vessels to prevent leakage
- Aneurysm Hook: hook onto/secure & elevate vessels
- Aneurysm Needle: suture/hold vessel open
- Bistory Knife: open arteries/veins
- Separator: elevate vessels above incision
- Drain tube: drainage, inserted directly into vein to keep open
When preparing a gallon (128 ounces) tank of chemical, the embalmer used 12 ounces of a 24 index chemical. What concentration of preservative is the tank they have prepared?
Index chemical strength x index chemical fluid volume (amount) = solution strength (concentration of preservative) x solution volume (overall amount/gallon)
24 x 12 = X x 128
288 = 128x
x = 288/128
x = 2.25%
When preparing a gallon (128 ounces) tank of chemical, the embalmer used a 30 index chemical. They said the tank had a concentration of 4.2%. You know they prepared a gallon (128 ounce) tank. How much bottled chemical did they use?
Index chemical strength x amount of index chemical = tank concentration x gallon
30 x V = 4.2% x 128
30V = 537.6
V = 537.6/30
V = 17.92 ounces of bottled chemical
What concentration strength of a prepared tank of chemical is considered a mild solution?
1-1.9% is a mild concentration strength
What concentration strength of prepared tank of chemical is considered a moderate solution?
2-2.9% is a moderate concentration strength
What concentration strength of prepared tank of chemical is considered a strong solution?
4% and more is a strong concentration strength
Identify one accessory chemical and explain its purpose.
Tissue Builder. Used to build up sunken features in the deceased like face/fingers to make it look less deflated and more life like.
Identify one supplemental chemical and explain its purpose.
Internal Bleach and Stain Remover. Added to arterial fluid to lighten the colour of darkened blood to help with discolouration.
Explain the purpose of drainage.
Remove fluid from the body to make room for/reduce the dilution of the preservation chemicals that are used to reduce rate of decomposition (blood decomposition). Also helps remove bacteria that causes discolouration, and reduces swelling of body tissues. Removes decomposing agent.
Explain the physical relationship of the common carotid artery to the jugular vein.
Jugular Vein is superficial and lateral to the common carotid artery.
What is the anatomical guide for the common carotid artery?
Both common carotid arteries are posterior to the medial edge of the SCM (sternoclidomastoid muscle) on both sides of the neck.
Explain the physical relationship of the femoral artery to the femoral vein.
Femoral artery is lateral and superficial to the femoral vein.
What is the centre of drainage?
Right atrium of the heart.
What is the centre of distribution?
Aortic arch and ascending aorta.
Calcium and iron may be removed from arterial solutions using ??? chemicals.
Water conditioning, anticoagulants, EDTA.
