What does “pressure” mean in relation to air pressure embalming machines?
The force required to distribute the emblaming solution throughout the body. It’s measured in pounds per square inch (psi).
What does “rate of flow” mean in relation to air pressure embalming machines?
The amount of embalming solution that enters the body in a given period. Measured in ounces per minute (opm).
What does “potential pressure” mean in relation to air pressure embalming machines?
The pressure reading on the gauge of the centrifugal machine, indicating the pressure in the delivery line of the machine with the rate of flow valve closed or the arterial tubing clamped shut.
What does “differential pressure” mean in relation to air pressure embalming machines?
The difference between the potential pressure reading and the actual pressure reading. It is an indicator of RATE OF FLOW.
What does “actual pressure” mean in relation to air pressure embalming machines?
The reading on the pressure gauge on the centrifugal pump when the rate of flow valve is open and the arterial solution is entering the body.
If the rate of flow valve is closed and the potential pressure is 15psi, then what is the differential pressure?
The differential pressure is 5psi and the actual pressure when the rate of flow valve is open is 10psi.
What do the Aneurysm Hook and Aneurysm Needle do?
Used for the blunt dissection of tissues to locate and raise the arteries and veins. Hook secures and elevates the vessels for use. The eye of the needle is used to pass suture thread around a vessel. It’s also useful for inserting eye caps and seperating lips for denture and mouth former placement.
What is a Bistoury Knife?
The bistoury knife is a curved cutting instrument designed for blunt dissection. The bistoury knife is customarily used during embalming to open arteries and veins.
What is a Hemostat or Locking Forceps?
It’s used to clamp leaking vessels. Arterial hemostat is used to hold the arterial tube securely in an artery.
What does the seperator do?
Keeps vessels elevated above the incision.
Which direction do you insert the drain tube?
Towards the heart.
