Quiz Questions Flashcards
Is aspirin an anticoagulant?
No.
It suppresses production of thromboxane, and so it is a platelet inhibitor, but it is not an anticoagulant
Is Von Willebrand Factor a clotting factor?
No.
It protects FVIII from degradation, but it is not involved in clotting
Does haemophilia only affect males?
No. Haemophilia A and B are more common in males, as they are X-linked, but it is possible to occur in females.
Skewed lyonisation is a mild case of haemophilia and is to do with the activation of the X chromosome in a female.
You can also acquire haemophilia, this can happen spontaneously. People with auto-immune disease can acquire haemophilia when it is related to the FVIII cell.
You can also get some diseases that have the hallmarks of haemophilia but it isn’t actually haemophilia.
