- Code of Ethics of the Canadian Association of Social Workers (CASW)
- The Ontario College of Social Workers
- Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW)
- Western University Student Code of Conduct
Professional Readiness for Commencing Practicum Policy
- CASW Code of Ethics & Guidelines for Ethical Practice
- The OCSWSSW Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice
- The Canadian Charters of Rights and Freedoms
- The Ontario Human Rights Code
- Kings University College Policies (including Code of Student Conduct)
All students enrolled in Social Work at Kings are required to complete Practicum.
Situations used to assess readiness to commence Practicum include:
Failure to complete required paperwork
Poor attendance
3 unsuccessful Practicum interviews
Unsuccessful completion of required coursework (found in BSW and MSW handbook)
Does not demonstrate skills required for professional settings:
- Ability to adhere to policies & procedures
- Ability to advocate for self/others to resolve conflict
- Ability to respect authority
Readiness to Commence Practicum Identified by Student

Student required to submit a written request to delay Practicum clearly outlining rational for delay and proposed plan to resume Practicum
Social work Liaison will meet w/ student to form a progression plan
Then Liaison will make written recommendation to Director of Social Work for approval
Readiness to Commence Practicum Identified by School of Social Work

Concerns are reviewed by Coordinator of Field Education and will meet with student to discuss concerns
Will also meet with:
