Quiz Ch 8 Flashcards
 The energy of the forward reaction is 53 kJ the energy of the back reactions 82 kJ is it exothermic or endothermic?
Exothermic. Because the heat of the reaction is the forward reaction minus the back reaction which would be the 53 kJ -82 kJ = -29 kJ since it’s negative it’s exothermic.
What is the lower energy in the product than reactant? What is the higher energy in the product than the reactant?
hint EXO ENDO ….
ENDO = + result of energy = higher energy (heat) in product than reactant
EXO = - result of energy = lower energy (heat) in the product than the reactant
In the equilibrium constant KEQ what is in the numerator and what is in the denominator?
N2(g) + 3Br2(g) <—> 2NBr3(g)
Product is in the numerator reactant in the denominator
[NBr3]²
Keq= ———————-
[N2] [Br2]³
In the equilibrium constant Keq what is in the square brackets?
N2(g) + 3Br2(g) <—> 2NBr3(g)
The molar concentration at equilibrium, the elements in the reaction and the concentration subscript.
[NBr3]²
Keq= ———————-
[N2] [Br2]³
In an equilibrium constant, Keq, What is raised to the power equal to the component’s coefficient? What is the power of outside the brackets?
N2(g) + 3Br2(g) <—> 2NBr(g)
The molar concentration of each component at equilibrium.
[NBr3]²
Keq= ———————-
[N2] [Br2]³
What does not appear in an equilibrium, constant Keq?
Solids or liquids do not appear in the equilibrium, constant expression
