Quiz 7 Flashcards
Field sketch
A freehand drawing of the scene of the crash showing certain features of the crash or Road configuration, usually for the purpose of recording measurements
Area of impact
The area of initial contact between a vehicle and another object or vehicle. The area of impact describes the place on the roadway where he contact occurred. The crash scene may contain several areas of impacts, the first of which is it designated as the classifying event or first harmful event
Fluid
Liquid debris from a vehicle, or the vehicles cargo, which is spilled, spattered or trailing on the pavement after a fluid container is ruptured from a collision
Scar
Any sign that the road, roadside or a fixed object has been damaged or marred by a traffic crash
Scratch
A light and usually irregular pavement scar made by a sliding metal part. The scar is created without a great pressure
Apex
The point at which two sides of an angle meet or cross. For crash investigation, the point at an intersection corner where the extended curb lines meet. The apex serves as a reference point for intersections and must be located in order to draw an intersection diagram
Fall
A downward and onward movement in the air under the force of gravity after forward momentum carries an object beyond at supporting surface. Rotation during a fall is gradual
Gore
The angle, or area, between two roadways where one roadway divides, or separate, into two roadways. A gore area may also be described as the dividing area at the intersection of two roadways. A gory area maybe either painted, physical or both
Yaw mark
A scuff mark made while a vehicle is slipping sideways; Marks made on the road by rotating tires which are slipping in a direction approximately parallel to the axle of the wheel
Arc
Part of a curve, especially part of a circle, between two points on the curve. A portion of a circle located between two specific points describes an arc. The curb portion between the two points is an ark. Primary relevance is intersection corners and yaw marks.
