Quiz 4 Part 2 Flashcards
What are Neuroglia Cells?
Supporting cells
What is the only cell in the nervous system that can transmit neuro signals?
Neuroglia Cell
(4 in the central nervous system, 2 in the peripheral nervous system)
What is the Astrocyte?
The most abundant cell and supports the neuron
What is Microglia?
It monitors the health of the neuron and it changes into a macrophage and eats it
What is Ependymal?
It lines cavities of the brain
What does the oligodendrocyte do?
Makes myelin in the central nervous system
What are the 2 cells that make myelin?
Shwaan and Oligodendrocyte
What are the 3 physiological components of the neuron?
Conductive
Secretary
Receptive
Neurotransmitters can do what?
Either excite or inhibit the neuron
What is the CNS and PNS for bundles of fibers?
CNS - tracts
PNS - Nerves
What is the CNS and PNS for a cluster of neurons?
CNS - Nuclei
PNS - Ganglia
Anterograde
movement toward the axon terminals
Retrograde
Movement away from axon terminals
ex. Polio, Rabies, Herpes
What is Multiple Sclerosis
Replaces myelin with sclerotic tissue
What are the symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis?
Visual problems and weakness
(Ages 30 - 40)
