Quiz #3 Flashcards
What are the four major cortical lobes?
Forebrain, Midbrain, Hindbrain, and Spinal Cord.
True or false: The limbic system is part of the diencephalon?
True
The reticular formation (a.k.a. reticular activating system) is a group of nuclei that exist in which structures?
Pons, Medulla, and Midbrain
What is the parts of the limbic system?
Amygdala, Hippocampus, and Fornix.
What is the name of the massive bundle of axon that connect the two hemispheres of the cortex?
Corpus callosum.
What are ventricles?
Layers of tissue and fluid around the outside of the brain that helps protect and nourish it.
The Forebrain
Telencephalon and limbic systems
(Hippocampus) (Amygdala)
Forebrain: Diecephalon
Thalamus and hypothalamus
(two hemispheres) (feeding, fleeing, fight, F’ing)
What is the Basel Ganglia?
The basal ganglia are best known for how they help your brain control your body’s movements.
Habitual behavior (involved in addition) auto pilot driving. Image of everything together on slideshow.
What is the Cerebral Cortex?
Surface of the human cortex has lobes, that functions chiefly in coordination of sensory and motor information. Lobes have two halves, not directly connected.
What is white matter?
Lighter because of fat around axons.
What is gray matter?
Mostly cell bodies.
