Quiz #2 Flashcards
What are the five major structures of a multipolar neuron?
Dendrites, soma, axon hillock, axon, and axon terminals.
What is the difference between cranial nerves and spinal nerves?
Cranial nerves: in and out of the brain.
Spinal nerves: in and out of the spinal cord.
Central Nerves System
Brain and spinal cord.
Peripheral Nerves System
The somatic and autonomic nerves systems
Peripheral: Somatic NS
Cranial nerves: come in and out of the brain.
Spinal Nervous: come in and out of spiral cord.
Peripheral: Autonomic NS
Sympathetic and non-sympathetic
(fight or flight) (calming)
Parasympathetic NS
Involves the release of both Acetylcholine (ASh) and Norepinephrine (NE).
Motor Neurons
Large with long axons reaching out to synapse on muscles causing muscle contraction.
Sensory Neurons
Specialized in gathering sensory information and take many different shapes, light, sight, touch.
Interneurons
(Most) analyze information gathered from one set of neurons and communicate with others. (the middle man)
Dendrites
The receiving end of a neuron.
Axon Terminal
The sending end of a neuron.
What is in the input zone of a neuron?
Dendrites and dendritic spines.
What is in the integration zone?
Soma and axon hillock.
What is in the conduction zone?
The axon.
