What are the pros & cons of a First Past the Post system?

A

cons:
Minority rule- the person who wins the election may have only had a small percentage of votes and majority of people may have voted against that party

Leads to a two party system- people may switch their vote to rule out the party they do not like

spoiler affect- if a new party joins, it takes votes from the already existing parties

Stages of a bill’s journey to becoming a law

A

Step 1- first reading- explain bill for 1 min
Step 2- seconond reading - debate and vote on idea of the bill
Step 3- committee stage- is ammend, accept, or reject bill
Step 4- report stage- committees roports back and recomends changes
Step 5- third reading- The now amended bill is debated on last time and voted upon by HOC
Step 6- onto the senate- senate repeats exact same process. If senate accepts the bill it will get royal assent and become a law
