Q

Differentiate between sexual and asexual reproduction. List the advantages and
disadvantages of each.

A

two parents provide genetic material for offspring. pros= variation. cons= requires more time and energy

one parent provides genetic material to offspring. Pros= more time and energy efficient. cons= no variation

Q

Identify four forms of asexual reproduction and one example of an organism that performs each.

A

binary fission: when a cell divides itself- bacteria
Vegetative reproduction: a new plant grows from a fragment of the original plant- potatoes
Budding: cell clones itself- sea sponge
Parthenogenesis: organism produces egg without fertilisation that usually turns into a female- bee

Q

Difference between self-pollination and cross-pollination.

A

Q

Draw the life cycle of humans. Your picture must include the following words:
adult, embryo, zygote, gamete, and the following processes: meiosis, mitosis, and fertilization. Feel free to identify the chromosome number in each step.

A

2 gametes come together and form a zygote. Zygote goes through mitosis to create more somatic cells. They turn into embryos. Embryo turns into a human and when the human is an adult the process repeats.
