World Music
First coined in 1960s to categorize traditions other than European music, also used as in industry (marketing tool) while it carries a sense of the exotic other (The West and the rest)
Authenticity
Resembles authority and resides in a person who has acquired the knowledge that permits him or her to perform authentically or evaluate authenticity as a critic.
Tradition
A style of performance or a musical genre, something within which items evolve, the group as a source of musical creativity
Music and Nationalism
The use of music specifically to assert the all important sense of a united community within a nation state, and also to assert some sense of difference to citizens of other nation states
Music and Identity
A person’s identity is invariably defined in terms of ancestral place of origin not the nation but the region and social class
