Quiz 2 stuff - composite Technique Flashcards
Retention with composite:
Proximal box enamel margins are beveled to expose ends of rods, greater bond strengths. 45 degree, .5 mm bevel.
Gingival Cavo margin: Bevel vs non-bevel:
Bevel : > 1 mm from CEJ
don’t bevel: < 1 mm from CEJ to below CEJ.
Causes for post-op sensitivity:
improper placement / curing
polymerization shrinkage/microleakage
higher C-factor (% of bonded surface to unbonded surfaces)
Enamel cracks
incremental placement helps prevent sensitivity. Its good
C - factor:
ratio of bonded surfaces to unbonded surfaces.
SNOWPLOW technique:
indication:
objective:
Indication: dentin-composite restoration
objective: better adaptation of composite to dentin.
SNOWPLOW technique:
steps:
1.) bonding
2.) flowable (.5 depth). DO NOT CURE
3.) Apply packable composite (1 mm depth) evenly and cure
4.) Finish composite restoration.
Triodent-V3 matrix system:
V-Ring: compensates for thickness of matrix by separating teeth.
Wave wedge: seal gingival area
Sectional Matrix: Creates temporary wall.
All are finishing burs for composite except:
7901
7404
H274

245
Chlorhexidine for how long:
60 seconds.
Composite protocol: Steps:
1.) rubber dam, prep, B-L extension bevels, Use V-ring system
2.) Acid etch enamel 20 sec. rinse with water
3.) apply chlorhexidine 2% for 60 sec. Dry with air
4.) Apply Scotchbond universal (2 layers) in 20 sec, thinned with microbrush before curing, air dry 5 sec
5.) light cure 10 sec
6.) Use permaflo with snowplow technique.
7.) Use layered fill technique, filtek supreme, 2 mm in depth each
8.) light cure 20 sec each layer.
9.) finish / polish
