Quiz #2 Flashcards
Give 2 specific reason not to overestimate AFEs?
1) operating company can’t lead the project. It might be a possiblity for not starting the project
2) OPCO spend less money for other projects
Types of cost?
1) -tangible(equipment), -intangible(service)
2) - fixed(e.g. wellhead), -variable(depends on time & depth)
Put the procedures for a LOT in the correct order from 1 to 6:
_Stop pumping when pressure plot deviates from a straight line
_Close BOPs and choke manifold
_Record the applied surface pressures at specified volume increments
_Pump slowly
_Plot point on graph
_Drill ~5-10 m of open hole out of the casing shoe
6. 2. 4. 3. 5. 1
Define each type of well control:
primiary -
secondary -
tertiary -
primiary - HP
secondary - BOP components bring the well under control
tertiary - 1) capping the wellbore with larger BOPs
2) relief wells
3) dynamite blasting
Define kick and blowout:
1) kick - unplanned, undesired relase of formation fluid to the well and surface
2) blowout - uncontrolled kick
Does The mud engineer is responsible for noticing changes in chloride in the mud?
Yes
List 3 primary kick warning sign while drilling:
(1) -p : increased pit gain/tank volume
- p : incresing of return flow rate
- p : pipe hydraulics out of the hole
List 4 secondary kick warning sings while drilling:
(2) secondary (while drilling)
- change in pump pressure & speed:
- SPP is low SPM is high
- change in mud properties
- gas cut mud (decrease in MW)
- cuttings shape & size change
- increase in chloride content
- drilling break (ROP is high rapidly)
- erratic table torque
- change in string weight
- increase - boyancy decrease w/gas
- decrease cuttings arround bit (abnormal pressure zones)
List two secondary kick warning signs while tripping:
secondary (while tripping)
- RIH -> displaced mud doesnt equal -> surging - POOH -> hole doesn't take correct of fluid -> swabbing
Causes of Kicks due to HUMAN ERROR:
1) mud density is too low
2) tripping : -swabbing, -surging
3) lost circulation:
- too high an ECD
- mud weight too heavy
- problem formation
1) Calculate the MACP when the mud weight is 1300 kg/m3 based on the below information:
ASP = 6440 kPa
casing shoe = 580 m
LOT done with water.
2) Calculate EMD with the LOP pressure found
FORMULAS: LOP = ASP + HP at csg shoe Leak-off gradient = LOP/Depth of casing EMD = Leak-off gradient/ 0.00981 MACP = LOP - HP
1) LOP = 6440 + (1000 x 580 x 0.00981) = 12129.8 kPa (with water)
HP = 1300 x 580 x 0.00981 = 7396.74 kPa
MACP = 12129.8 - 7396.74 = 4733.0 kPa
2) LOG = 12129.8 / 580 = 20.9 kPa/m
EMD = 20.9 / 0.00981 = 2130.5 kg/m3
When mud density in the wellbore is increased, MACP will increase. T or F
False
