Presence of intrusive, unwanted thoughts and or repetitive behaviors. compulsions should last more than an hour and cause distress
Body Dysmorphic Disorder
Preoccupation with imagined/exaggerated defects or flaws in physical appearance

Recurrent pulling out of hair resulting in loss

Disruption/disturbances in functions of identity, memory, or consciousness
Dissociative Identity Disorder
Disruption of identity by 2 or more distinct personality states
Alterations in affect, behavior, speech, etc.
Recurrent gaps in the recall of everyday events, important personal info, and/or traumatic events
Dissociative Amnesia
Inability to recall important personal info, usually of a traumatic or stressful nature
Not malingering
falsely claiming amnesia as a way of escaping responsibility (faking symptoms)
Types of Amnesia
Localized – failure to recall events during a certain period of time
Selective – can recall some but not all events during a certain period of time
Generalized – forget entire life/personal history
Continuous – forget new events as they occur
Systematized – memories related to specific categories of info are lost
Depersonalization/Derealization Disorder
Depersonalization - feeling of detachment from mind/body
Out of body experience
Derealization - feeling of unreality about outside world/surroundings
Fog/dream/distortions
Reality testing & memories remain intact
Somatic Symptom Disorders
People have physical symptoms but no organic abnormalities can be found to account for them
Not consciously/intentionally faking their symptoms
Conversion Disorder
Major change in/loss of motor/sensory functioning
Symptoms may develop suddenly during traumatic or stressful situations
Illness Anxiety Disorder
Preoccupied with having/acquiring a serious, undiagnosed illness
Somatic symptoms are mild/not present
High anxiety about health
Perform excessive health related behaviors (e.g. checks) or exhibits avoidance
Lasts > 6 months
Factitious Disorder
Falsification of physical/psychological symptoms or induction of injury/disease
Associated with deception
Present to others as ill or injured
External rewards for behavior are absent
