Quiz 10 - Ventricular Arrhythmias Flashcards
What is a premature ventricular contraction?
An early ectopic impulse originating from the ventricles.
What is an Idioventricular (IDR) rhythm? (aka ventricular escape rhythm)
A rhythm that originating from ectopic ventricular foci
What is the typical rhythm coming from an IDR aka vent escape rhythm?
30 - 40 bpm or 40 - 110 if accelerated.
What is vent. trachycardia aka V tach?
A rapid ecotpic impulse orginating form the vent.; typically sudden
What are the visual charcterstics of v tach
Pwave typically not associated with QRS; QRS = wide and smooth; rate = 140 - 250bpm
What are some causes of v tach?
Enchanced sympthetic activity; excessive catecholmines; heart disease; ectopic pacemakers in vent.
WOnt be seen in “normal” healthy adults; serious indicator of something being wrong
Describe what Torades de pointes is? (aka Rapid ventricular polymorphic rhythm)
Its when the QRS change directions or move in a positive and negative direction (aka up then down). Its firing rate will also be above 250.
WHat are teh charterstics of vent. fibralltion?
They are ectopic, disorganized, chatioc impules orginating from the vent.
They have NO rhythm, pwaves or QRS (V. tach can turn into this if not treated)
