Quiz #1 (A&C Illness, CR, Diagnostics) Flashcards
Chronic conditions
health problems w/ associated symptoms/disabilities that require long-term management (3 months or longer)
Modifiable risk factors for chronic disease
- smoking
- unhealthy diet
- physical inactivity
- overweight and obesity
Self-management
complex, multidimensional process that people use to create order from the disorder imposed by illness
List 9 different phases of chronic conditions (describing them can occur verbally)
- pre-trajectory phase
- trajectory phase
- stable phase
- unstable phase
- acute phase
- crisis phase
- comeback phase
- downward phase
- dying phase
Non-modifiable risk factors for chronic disease
- gender
- genetics
- age
- race
What are the self-management themes?
- recognizing and monitoring the boundaries
- mobilizing resources
- managing the shift in self identity
- balancing, pacing, planning, prioritizing (don’t overload them with info/teaching)
Critical thinking
process of insightful thinking that utilizes multiple dimensions of ones cognition (develops conclusions, solutions, alternatives for a given situation)
Collaborative problems
potential problems or complications (medical in origin) that require collaborative interventions with physician and other HCP’s
Implementation
includes direct/in-direct execution of the planned interventions
What does good reasoning require?
- point of view
- purpose
- question at issue
- assumptions
- implications and consequences
- concepts
- information
- interpretation and inference
list 4 major categories that have to be reported regarding confidential patient info
- vital statistics ex. births and deaths
- infections and communicable diseases ex. diphtheria, syphilis, typhoid fever
- child or elder abuse
- violent incidents ex. shootings, knife attacks
What are the 3 components to consent?
- disclosure= provision of info
- capacity= patients ability to understand relevant info
- voluntariness= refers to patients right to come to decision w/o force/manipulation
list 3 types of consent
- express consent
- implied consent
- informed consent
express consent
clear statement by patient (oral or written)
implied consent
exists when individuals non-verbal behaviour indicates willingness (ex. when in surgery)
informed consent
discloses all relevant info related to treatment w/ full chance for Q’s/concerns
SBAR
Situation
Background
Assessment
Recommendation
IDRAW
Identify the patient Diagnoses Recent changes Anticipated changes What to watch for
assent
consulted and agree to treatment
informed cultural consent
- type of informed consent
- needs to be reframed within cultural context or not valid
MAP acronym and what is the range?
Mean arterial pressure, 60-90 range
how do you calculate the MAP?
SBP-DBP/3 + DBP
Ultrasound
imaging technique that uses high-frequency sound waves to acquire real time images
CT scan
two-dimensional image, takes longer than xray, contrast (IV) agents used (highlights tissues, organs, BV, watch for allergies)
MRI
- magnetic resonance imaging (three-dimensional)
- uses strong magnetic fields and radio waves
- DOES NOT use radiation
- contrast can be used
- takes much longer than CT
- cannot have MRI if you have any hardware (ex. pacemaker)
