PICO is used to develop what type of research question?
Quantitative
PICo is used to develop what type of research question?
Qualitative
What does the p value tell us?
The percentage of the time that the results reported would have happened by chance alone.
What is a multivariate?
The study reports findings for three or more factors and will include the relationships among those different factors
What do qualitative studies focus on?
Understanding the complexity of humans within the context of their lives. Subjective information.
What are common ways to gather data for qualitative studies?
Interviews, observation.
What are common ways to gather data for quantitative studies?
Survey, questionnaire.
What is a sample?
A smaller group, subset of a group of interest in a study.
What is a meta-synthesis? Does this use qualitative or quantitative study methods?
Report of a study of a group of single research studies. Qualitative.
What is a meta-analysis? What approach does this use, quantitative or qualitative?
Looks at statistics from different studies covering the same topic, quantitative.
What is a systematic review?
Addresses a specific clinical question by summarizing multiple research studies.
What are some common errors in research?
Failure to include one or more major aspects of a discussion and conclusion. Over interpreting results.
What does generalization mean?
Ability to apply a particular study’s findings to the broader population represented by the sample
What types of things are covered in the “methods” section of a research study?
Process of implementing research study, sampling, data analysis.
What types of things are recovered in the “results” section?
Summarize the information gathered in study, analyze data and look for themes.
What is addressed in the problem/introduction portion of a research study?
Describes the gap in knowledge that will be addressed.
What types of things are included in the “conclusion” portion of a research study?
Limitations, recommendations, implications for practice.
What is an abstract?
Is a summary or condensed version of a research report.
What is a hypothesis?
A statement predicting the relationships or effects of selected factors on other factors?
What is conceptualization?
A systematic approach to summarizing multiple research studies that focus on a specific clinical problem.
What is a variable?
Is an aspect of the phenomenon of interest or research problem that differs among people or institutions
What is a univariate analysis?
Analysis of data of a given point that focuses on only one variable.
What is a bivariate analysis?
Analysis with other two variables.
What is a pattern? What do they help us understand? What type of research is this used in?
Themes. Larger truths about behaviour and how people might respond to a new idea. Qualitative studies.
