Angle of elevation
The relationship between the height of the camera and the height of the subject. Whether the camera is looking up or down at the subject.
Aspect ratio
Ratio of screen width to height.

Backlighting
Aka silhouette effect- when the main source if illumination is positioned behind the subject. Often this will cause the camera iris go close down and darken the shot creating an unwanted silhouette effect.
Boom
Camera movement in which the camera is physically raised or lowered.
Cant
Camera movement in which the camera tilts out of level.
Cardioid (mic pick up pattern)
Heart shaped pick up pattern used to pick up audio in one direction more than others. Good for use in noisy locations.
Dolly
Camera movement in which the camera physically rolls forward or backward.
Film-style shooting
Term used to describe single-camera production. So-called because this is how the majority of motion pictures are shot.
Hand mic
Microphone designed to be held in the hand.
Headroom
The space between the top of the head and the top of the frame.
High angle shot
Shot taken from a higher elevation than the subject. Camera is high looking down.
Lavaliere/clip mic
Microphone designed to be clipped to a lapel. Less obtrusive than a hand mic.
Lead room
Space between a moving subject and the edge of the frame.
Low angle shot
Shot taken from a lower elevation than the subject. Camera is low looking up.
Macro shot
An extreme close up of some fine detail. Taken with the camera very close to the subject.
Multiple camera production
Type of production in which several cameras all record the same action simultaneously. Necessary for allowing multiple angles of a live event.
Natural sound (NAT)
The ambient noise of a location. Some natural sound is good, it paints a picture of the location. Too much is not good, it competes with the subject audio.
Omnidirectional (mic pick up pattern)
Sphere shaped pickup pattern used to pick up audio in all directions equally. Good for recording natural sound or dialogue in a quiet location.
Over the shoulder shot
Used to get a MCU of one person shot over the shoulder of another person. Typically used when two people are facing each other.
Pan
Camera movement in which the camera remains stationary, but swivels left or right.

Three steps in producing a video-pre production, production and post production.
Pick up pattern (mic)
The thee dimensional shape in which a microphone picks up the best audio.
Pre production (phase)
First step in the production process which involves message research and writing, planning, budgeting, hiring, etc.
Post production (phase)
Third step in the production process which involves editing, music, graphics,etc.
