What are you looking for in a college? In a college baseball program?
Where are you in the recruiting process?
Coach is trying to figure out where you are in the overall recruiting process. You can tell them, “I am just getting starting in the process” - or “I am still exploring my options” - or “I am going to visit a few more colleges before narrowing down my options.” Just make sure whatever you say is HONEST.
What other schools have you been looking at? Where do we rank on your list?
You can respond with specific colleges (only if it’s TRUE) or just be vague saying “schools in XYZ conference.” Don’t lie or exaggerate saying a school is “showing interest/recruiting you” because they sent a camp invite or generic email. Coach talk.
What are you planning on majoring in?
How are you doing in school? What is your GPA?

What are your strengths and weaknesses as a player? What are you currently working on improving?
What kind of training have you been doing?
BASE, weekly lessons; going up to your HS to hit and practice with other players throughout the summer; playing for HS team and travel team and guesting for 16U team
What are your interests and hobbies outside of baseball?
Maybe think about rec basketball, going to school sporting events - how you used to play other sports [football, soccer, basketball] until you decided you wanted to focus on baseball. Or you can also talk about how you don’t have time for many other things - but focus on and put all of your work into baseball.
Why do you play baseball? What makes you passionate about this game or inspires you?
How do you handle adversity? How have you shown mental strength in your game?
Baseball is a game of failure. You keep a positive mental attitude, take extra batting practice (or pitching practice) to reinforce muscle memory and the right technical skills …
What makes you think you’re ready to play at this level?
Had a lot of opportunity to compete against top athletes … pitched against Canes National Team … elite hitting performances in 15U World World Bat National Championship and 2023 Freshman World Championship last fall … led HS team to first substate appearance since 2019 (?) (only 5th in school’s history) … continually work hard to get better from training at BASE to build strength and conditioning to meeting teammates for BP and fieldwork
Have you taken the ACT/SAT? If not, when do you plan on taking it?
Have not taken it yet … plan on taking it in September or October
What interests you about our school in particular? What makes you think this program is the right fit for you?
Maybe it’s the strength of their business program … the location of their school (a college campus, or being close to a certain downtown, or proximity to home)
What interests you about our baseball program in particular?
Maybe it’s their coaching staff (how long - or how short - they’ve been there) - that they give freshmen a chance to play - their historical success - their fan base and atmosphere at home games. Just make sure you research this for each school to make sure what you’re saying is accurate.
Do you consider yourself a leader on and off the field? How so?
