- due to exaggerated tissue response to chronic inflammation due to trauma e.g overhangs or subgingival calculus
- excisional biopsy + treat cause

- vascular epulis
- type of pyogenic granuloma
- often related to trauma and there is an overgrowth of the granulation tissue and there is failure of normla healing
- excisional biopsy can be done

pregnancy epulis
same as vascular except in pregnant lady
often related to calculus and hormonal changes enhance response to tissue irritation
tx: small lesions may require excision and may regress after the birth of the baby, larger lesions should be excised
remember to remove any sources of irritation

- squamous cell papilloma
- usually pedunculated, white surface, cauliflow appearance, benign neoplasm
- commonly seen palate, buccal mucosa or lips
- tx: excision at base, biopsy (excisional) & HPV testing (types 6 & 11)

- will see lots of multinucleate giant cells in it
- high recurrence - must be completely excised
- radiograph to rule out central giant cell granuloma / brown tumour
