practical advantages of questionnaires
quick and cheap way of getting large data
no need for recruiting and training
data is easy to quantify
reliability of questionnaires
identical questionnaires are used and no researcher can influence questions - research is reliable as other researchers can repeat and will come out with the same results
detachment and objectivity of questionnaires
researcher bias is not involved as they do not influence the answerer of the questionnaire
ethical issues of questionnaires
people are under no obligation to answer, informed consent should be provided in addition to anonymity
practical problems of questionnaires
- data collected is limited due to it being brief questions as long questions are unlikely to get results
- incentives may be required to encourage people to answer
- has the respondent received the questionnaire, was it completed by the intended person
detatchment isssue of questionnaires
lacks validity and doesn’t paint a clear picture - there is no way to show that the responder and researcher interpret the questions in the same way as they are not face to face
lying, forgetting or right answerism
relies on the respondent’s willingness to accurately and truthfully answer questions - they may try to please the researcher - not truly answered as a result
