Questionnaires are a list of pre-set questions devised by a sociological researcher that are related to the topic under consideration. The same questions are given to each person in the same order so that the same information can be gathered from each person in the sample.
Advantages
No chance of face to face researcher influence
High reliability
Can be used with large samples from which generalisations can be made
Standardised responses to standardised questions; all responders to faced with the same questions in the same order and format
Pre-code answers makes data analysis easier.
Limitations
Misinterpreted questions
Low-response rate- representativeness
No chance the check truthfulness
Accessing a representative sample may prove difficult
