The ontological position of the Qualitative approach.
Relativists: Reality cannot be separated from the context in which it occurs, and they emphasise understanding the subjective experiences and meanings of individuals within that context. They believe that reality is multiple and diverse, shaped by social, cultural, and historical factors.
The epistemological position of the Qualitative approach.
Constructivist: phenomena is socially constructed through human interactions and interpretations. In other words, knowledge is not objective and fixed; instead, it is subjective and contingent upon individuals’ experiences. They argue that knowledge is context-dependent and constructed through social interactions, language, and cultural practices.
Relativist and Method of Analysis
Employs methods of data analysis that emphasise understanding the subjective meanings and interpretations of research participants. such as transcripts from interviews, field notes, or documents.
Constructivism and Method of Analysis
Prioritises understanding subjective meanings and interpretations through qualitative techniques such as coding, thematic analysis, and interpretation of textual or visual data.
