Aryan (hinduism)

Historical Significance- their ideas combined with the ideas of the Indus people created Hinduism. Also a lot of Hinduism is based off of Ayran life.

What- second highest class in the caste system. The arms of Purusha
When- 15th century AD, Portugal explorers encountered the caste system

Historical Significance- a wealthy group that had power over some but not over the priests
Brahman (Hinduism)
Who- the Devine, absolute reality
What- the creator God
When- when he was created until now
Where- all Hinduism places
Historical Significance- when a person understands the relationship between atman (the individual soul of a living being) and Brahman ( the world soul that contains and unites all atman), the person will have a perfect understanding and achieve moksha which is the ultimate goal.
*every God represents a different form of Brahman
*everything is a piece of Brahman
Shiva (Hinduism)
Who- the destroyer of the world
What- one of the 3 forms of Brahman
When- creation of shiva continued through now
Where- all Hinduism places
Historical Significance- one of the 3 most important Hindu gods
* Vishnu and Shiva are worshipped more and often appear as avatars (reincarnations of Brahman)
Vedas (Hinduism)
Who- the Aryans, showed their life
What- sacred literature that left a picture of Aryan life> the Vedas are four collections of prayers, magical spells and instructions for performing rituals. The most important is the Rig Veda containing 1,028 hymns
When- older than any other sacred literature of any other major religion
Where- India but read where any Hindu is
Historical Significance- told the Hindus how to futile their religion
Brahmin (Hinduism)
Who- priests
What- highest group in the caste system (mouth of Purusha)
When- throughout the caste system history
Where- India
Historical Significance- wealthiest and had the most power over every other group
Reincarnation (Hinduism)
Who- Hindus
What- rebirth, the process of an individual soul or spirit is born again until moksha is achieved
When- throughout Hinduism history
Where- India but really where any Hindu is
Historical Significance- Hindus have to understand that
Upanishads (Hinduism)
Written as dialogues, or discussions between a student and a teacher
* in the corse of dialogues, the 2 explore how a person can achieve liberation from desires and suffering
