Q

Principle quantum number

A
  • describes size and energy of orbital (Is the orbital)
  • The orbitals increase by full integers that correspond to specific energy levels
  • Spaces between orbitals are not equal
  • n=1 is ground state

Secondary Quantum number

A
  • s-orbital or l=0 is spherical
  • p-orbital or l=1 is double lobed
  • d-orbital or l=2 and f-orbitals or l=3 are made up of more complex lobes
  • These sub-levels always exist from ) to N-1

Q

Magnetic quantum Number

A
  • breaks the sublevels into individual orbitals
  • defines the spatial orientation along a standard set of coordinates
  • is l=2 than ml= -2,-1,0,1,2

Q

Spin Quantum Number

A
  • Electrons act like mini-magnets, where spinning creates a magnetic field
  • It is describes as ms and there are two possible values
