Quantitative Research: Planning and collecting (S6) Flashcards

1
Q

What are the Quantitative (Descriptive) Research Methods

A
  • Formulate the objectives
  • Create a sample structure
  • Prepare the research instrument (survey)
  • Collect the data
  • Analyze the results (SPSS)

Q

Sampling Procedure: Define the Target population

A
  • Define the population through sex, age, origin, location, etc.

Q

Sample Procedure: Identyfing the Sampling Frame

A
  • The sample selected has to be representative of the population
  • The information gathered from the sample needs to be generalizable for the population
  • This is a Database where we will go get a sample to represent our population

Q

Sampling Procedure: Select a Sampling Frame

A
  • Probability (known, non-zero chance, not necessarily equal of being selected): This is when we have access to a sampling frame that already exists
  • Non-probability (unknown): no sampling frame exists

Q

What are the different technique of Probability sampling

A
  • Simple Random: You select a random amount of people from your list
  • Stratified: Divide the population in groups with specific characteristics and select people from each groups
  • Cluster: Divide the population into groups which include all the different characteristics, and select one single group to analyze

Q

Non probability sampling: what is Convenience sampling

A
  • You use the people at your disposal (It’s Convenient)
  • Respondents who fit the target you are looking for
  • This Sampling technique is less good as you ask people who are not representative of the population

Q

Non probability sampling: what is Judgement sampling

A
  • You Judge as a researcher that one person (Group) is better to answer the survey than others. (Mostly used in B2B research)

Q

Non probability sampling: what is Snowballing sampling

A
  • You interview one person that matches your target segment and that person refers you to other people they know that fit the target to interview them. This process repeats itself so on and so on.

Q

Non probability sampling: what is Quota sampling

A
  • In Quota sampling you ask the people that represent your sampling characteristics (target segment) until you reach your mark for each representation required.
-This is the best option for non probability sampling

Q

What are the Types of errors

A
  • Sampling error: Discrepancy between statistical and true value of population
  • Non-sampling error: Due to errors in conception, logic, interpretation of responses, statistics, tabulation, etc.

Q

What is a Nominal Measurement scale?

A
  • A nominal question is a single answer question that is a qualitative question
  • Ex Gender: Male, Female, Non-binary, Prefer not to say

Q

What is a Scale Measurement scale?

A
  • Answers fall on a scale like what is your age: 18,19,20,21,22
  • The answers provide quantitative data
  • usually they have a measurment scale like “1 is I don’t like it”, “5 is I like this very much”

Q

What is a Ordinal Measurement scale?

A
  • An ordinal measurement scale is a type of scale used to rank or order items according to some characteristic, but without assuming equal spacing between the ranks.
