Quantitative Research design Flashcards
1
Q
Experimental (RCT)
rqrs?
to determine causality if must be demonstrated that? 3
A
Requires: randomization, control group, manipulation or treatment
To determine causality it must be demonstrated that:
1. casual effect variables associated
- cause precedes effect (cause comes before outcome)(we don’t want the cause being occurring from anything)
- relationship not explained by another variable
2
Q
Quasi-Experimental
A
Used in situations where full experimental design is not possible
- Will have a control group with treatment,
- Involves manipulation of IV
- Lacks randomization and/or control,
- May use a non-equivalent comparison group (not randomly selected)
- As a result one cannot make causal inferences.
