Quantitative Data Flashcards
What is Quantitative Research?
Quantitative research starts with questions that are formulated into testable hypotheses (predictions) which are then investigated.
Conclusive.
Statistical/Numerical Data.
Descriptive.
Deductive Reasoning.
What is the Objective/Purpose?
To quantify data and generalise results from a sample to the population of interest.
Measuring variables and verifying existing theories or hypotheses or questioning them from the population of interest.
What Sample is used?
Large number cases representing the population of interest.
Randomly selected.
How is the Data Collected?
Structured Techniques:-
Online Questionnaires, Surveys, On street or telephone questionnaires, Audits, Points of purchase, Click Streams, Experimentation.
What type of Data Analysis is used?
Statistical data.
In tables, Conclusive findings. Descriptive.
Final Outcome?
Used to recommend final course of action.
Sometimes followed by Qualitative to explore findings further.
In order to ensure that experimental and control groups are similar before the experiment begins, what do scientists sometimes do?
Assign subjects randomly to the experimental and control groups.
