Under ISO 9001, they apply worldwide

What is quality control?
Monitoring quality by sampling and testing materials continually to identify faults/defects. ensures that quality is maintained and improved
What is quality assurance?
Making sure quality and safety standards are met by measuring how or if control measures were implemented. Assures fitness for purpose
Who can assure quality?
Internal/ external organisational management through kite marks and other standards
What is the ISO?
International Organisation for Standardisation,
Independent not for profit organisation
What does the ISO do?
Ensure that products are compatible, fit for purpose and to make sure they work well in a global sense with technical specifications
What are some examples of worldwide standardisation because of the ISO?
Screws and batteries.
all of europe now uses 230 volt 50 hz AC mains
What does the BSI do/what are they responsible for?
Producing technical standards, supply certifications and test products against specifications across the UK.
Any product that is sold in the UK must be compliant with the BSI
What kind of quality marks are there under the BSI?
- Kite mark
- CE marking - shows that a product has met EU safety, health and environment requirements
- Choking hazards, toxic finishes, sharp corners for children’s toys
- Flammability tests on clothing
- Tractor - farming produce made in Britain
- Eggs have lion quality stamp
