Q

tolerance

A
  • the acceptable level of accuracy in a product/part
  • depends on material, parts, size and function
  • fine tolerances are particularly important when parts are interchangeable
  • components not meeting tolerance are rejected

Q

go/no go gauges

A
  • check single measurement for tolerance range (pass or fail)
  • min and max dimensions are on it so easy to use
  • quick to use

Q

laser or probe scanning and measuring

A
  • probe scanners check predetermined measurements (highly accurate)
  • non-contact lasers scan thousands of readings
  • can be used to check tooling accuracy for QA

Q

digital measuring

A
  • provide a read out of the dimension measured
  • can be used in a range of situations
  • vernier callipers are generally used for external, internal and depth measurements with 0.002mm accuracy
  • the screw thread utilised in a micrometer facilities has accuracy of 0.01

Q

non destructive testing

A
  • carried out on products rather than material samples
  • the product is not destroyed during testing
  • used to find faults in the material
  • e.g. using ultrasound and x-rays
