Qualitative vs Quantitative Flashcards
What is the difference between ontology and epistemology?
Ontology looks at the reality of things itself and usually it questions the metaphysical. What happens when we die? Episthemology instead looks at what we know NOW.
What is the biggest questions between ontology and episthemology?
Does it maatter what I do not know?
Which is the main division between the scientific methods?
The main division are QUALITATIVE vs QUANTITATIVE.
In which scenario inductive reasoning tends to be more useful?
Inductive reasoning that is based on the pure observation of data without an underlaying theory, tends to be more useful in terms of QUALITATIVE data.
What are the quantitative data formats?
- Continuous Data
-Interval Data
-Discrete Data
Give me an example of Continuous Data?
An example of continous data would be height and weight. It has a natural zero below which it is impossible to go. It is also continuously divisible.
Give me an example of Discrete Data?
Discrete Data work only with Integers and it is SCALE. It is also part of the quantitative calculations and it has a NATURAL ZERO.
Give me an example of Interval Data?
An Interval Data is quantitative and it has NO NATURAL ZERO. This means that the zero belonging to the list that is most likely a SCALE can also be negative.
What types of data do we have when we talk about QUALITATIVE data?
When we have QUALITATIVE data, we can only have 1) ORDINAL DATA 2) NOMINATIVE DATA.
What are some characteristics of Ordinal Data?
Ordinal data is used to rank based on specific informations and it is based on HUMAN CONSTRUCTS of what we define as better or worse.
Whaat are some characteristics of Nominal Data?
Nominal data describe the world as it is according to HUMAN CONSTRUCTS. This means, that it cannot be ranked.
