Answers to how and why questions
Purposive sampling
Depend on context
What is purposive sampling
When you select the people involved in the study depending on a particular experience they have had (social context)
What are the main qualitative approaches
Grounded theory Ethnography Phenomenology Case study Narrative
What is a grounded theory approach
Developing theory based on the data that you have collected
What is the ethnography approach
Developing theories on certain social or cultural groups
What is a narrative approach
When you are interested in taking meanings from individual stories
What is a case study approach
When you explore single or multiple case studies
What is a phenomenology approach
Looking at individual experience and understanding their experience
What is an interative method
A cycle of collecting data and then interpreting the result to collect further data
When does iterative method stop
When saturation is met
What is saturation
When adding new data does not change the overall result i.e no additional interviews give new insight
What factors do we need to consider for a good qualitative study
Trustworthiness
Credibility
Reflexivity
Relevance
What is trustworthiness looking at
If the data is supported with evidence, i.e have quotations been used
What is reflexivity about
As humans are collecting the data, the interview that has a specific background and interest can change the way responses are received. The study should therefore state how the interviewer might of affected the data.
What is credibility about
Researcher needs to demonstrate that they have fairly represented the data and all data has been analysed
