A sampling strategy which means that participants are recruited because they have on-going or prior experience of the phenomena the researcher is exploring.
Non-probability sampling methods
Before a study begins, the researcher sets aside their knowledge, assumptions, beliefs, attitudes and prejudices about the topic under investigation to minimise the impact of these on data collection and analysis.
Bracketing
A method of data collection whereby the researcher observes a group and does not participate in group activities during episodes of data collection.
Non participant observations
Ethnographic studies which focuses on a small group of people.
Microethnography
Ethnographic studies which focuses on large groups of people such a whole community.
Macroethnography
The data are constantly reviewed and revisited until the researcher feels that the analysis has been complete.
Iterative process
The researcher reflects upon the impact of their own knowledge, experience and beliefs in the conduct of the research.
Reflexitivity
Changes in participant behaviour when they become aware that they are being observed.
Hawthorne effect
