interviews
researcher and ppt, interviews are usually semi structured where they can ask follow up questions to gain more insight
focus groups
3-6 ppts, researcher acts as facilitator, focuses on conversations and interactions between the group.
+ interviews
good for sensitive topics, easier to organise, good for shy people, researcher has control
+ focus groups
can see interactions, ppts lead eachother, more data in shorter time period, multiple viewpoints
- interviews
less data collected than focus group, time consuming, unfocused prompts - follow up questions can impair quality of data
- focus groups
one ppt can dominate, hard to organise, researcher has less control which may be hard to ask follow up questions
other methods of qualitative data
diaries, books, vlogs/blogs, observations, articles
questions within qualitative data
should not be yes or no. open ended questions
