Ethnography

Phenomenology
understand how the world is experienced by others from their perspective
Field research
researcher goes into the field to observe the phenomenon in its natural state
Grounded Theory
theory rooted in observation about phenomena of interest
Participant observation
researcher needs to become a participant in the culture or context being observed ( needs to be accepted as a natural part of culture )
Direct observation
researcher maintains distance
detached perspective
more structured
does not take as long
unstructured interviewing
conversation in any direction
case studies
intensive study of a specific individual or specific context
Focus group
detailed information about attitudes, opinions preferences
Unobtrusive measures
collecting data that do not interfere in the lines of respondents
research quality
credibility, transferability, dependability, confirmability
