Q

Theory observation

A

The starting point for the research process comes from a theoretical domain or observations
* Once a theory or observation has been made, the next step is to test the theory/observation in order to fully understand the phenomena/issue/area.

Reading relevent literature

A

Athoroughliteraturereviewisvitaltoasuccessfulstudy.
* Youmustfind,readandcritiquesuitablematerialtoexplore:
➢ Gaps in the literature
➢ Areas that may be under researched ➢ Enhance your knowledge of the area
* Reading enables the researcher (you) to re-define their ideas or research topic. ➢ The rationale and justification for your study
* Youmustcriticallyevaluatethepapers.Justbecauseitispublisheddoesnot mean it is right.

Q

Assumptions

A

the researcher must assume that certain conditions will exist.
➢ For example, in a study the subject may have to agree to fast for a specified period
of time. A basic assumption is that the subjects will follow these instructions.

Q

Limitations

A

Twotypes:
1. Those that can be controlled (delimitations)- boundaries set by the researcher for
the study based on the research question. ➢ Inclusion/exclusion criteria
2. Those that cannot be controlled (limitations) but may be caused by delimits
➢ E.g. small sample sizes, lack of experience, participants not compiling

resemblance to the true experimental research. However, the participants are not randomly assigned, and so they are used in settings where randomization is difficult or impossible.
