Quadratic Inequalities Flashcards
1
Q
What is a quadratic inequality
A
An equation that uses a greater than or less than sign rather than an equal sign
2
Q
How do we solve quadratic inequalities
A
First we need to solve as usual, using factorisation
We then place the two points onto a small sketched out graph
Now highlight the region we are trying to find
If the equation is <0
Write in the form y<x<y
Where the smallest value would come first
If the equation is >0
X<y (the smallest value)
X>y
3
Q
What is an easy way to remember what the sign will be
A
If x>0 its ‘above ground’
If x<0 its ‘below ground’
‘ground’ is the x axis
Always highlight the lines.
Remember when in the negatives x<1 would give -2, -3 etc as values
