What are checklists without an EICAS message called & where can they be found?
Unnanunciated checklists. They can be found :
i. under the relevant system section if there is one eg. Fuel leak is in section 12. Fuel
ii. under the Miscellaneous section 0. for checklists without associated systems eg. Ditching
What does the rectangular box [ ] before an EICAS alert message signify?
That the checklist has procedural steps, notes or other information that the flight crew should be aware of.
An EICAS alert message was preceded a [ ] but the [ ] is no longer there. What does this mean?
The checklist has been completed ie. procedural steps have been carried out.
Checklists can have both memory and reference items. What is the significance of memory items?
They are critical steps that must be carried out from memory before reading the checklist.
What does a dashed line ———- in a printed non-normal checklist signify?
The items above the line are memory items. The items below the line are reference items.
Does the additional information at the end of a checklist (where present) need to be read?
No. Although, it is helpful information that the crew might wish to consider.
Where can the quick action checklists be found?
The front of the QRH and also at the beginning of each section.
How can you tell if a checklist is a quick action checklist?
The title of the checklist will be in bold.
Some titles of checklists are in bold, what does this signify? Eg. AUTOBRAKE
That the checklist is signified by an EICAS alert message or other indication.
Some titles of checklists are in upper and lower case eg. Window Damage L, R. What does this signify?
That the checklist is not annunciated.
Some situations require a crew to land at the nearest suitable airport. What examples are listed in the NNC Instructions? (note: there are 6)
- NNC includes the phrase ‘Plan to land at the nearest suitable airport’
- Fire or smoke continues or cannot be positively identified as extinguished.
- Only one AC power source remains
- Unexplained multiple failures or situations where flying control is becoming marginal.
- medical situation which might result in death.
- any other situation determined by the flight crew to have a significant adverse effect on safety if the flight is continued.
Smoke, fire or fumes event has become uncontrollable. What you should you consider?
An immediate landing - implies landing on the nearest runway but should consider overweight landing, off-airport landing or ditching.
Checklist is directing an engine shutdown. Must you follow it?
Must first be evaluated to determine whether shutdown or running at reduced thrust is the safest course of action. Consider the probable effects of running engine at reduced thrust.
Secondary engine indications have popped up, displaying high vibration. What should you do?
Engine oil or vibration is for information only, there is no associated checklist.
During engine start, before dispatch, there is an NNC with EICAS alert. You complete the checklist, what must you then do?
The DDG must be consulted to determine if MEL dispatch relief available.
