Qi, Blood, and Body Fluids (cont'd) Flashcards
Blood Differentiation
Blood Deficiency
Describe (General):
Usually caused by Spleen Qi deficiency. When Blood becomes deficient, the Heart and Liver are affected.
Blood Differentiation
Blood Deficiency
Liver Blood Deficiency (Symptoms):
Cramps, numbness; dry hair; blurred vision, floaters; Dry or brittle nails; insomnia and excessive dreaming; scanty periods or no periods
Blood Differentiation
Blood Deficiency
Heart Blood Deficiency (Symptoms):
Palpitations; insomnia; mild anxiety; poor memory; dizziness; dull-pale complexion

Blood Deficiency
Spleen Blood Deficiency (Symptoms):
Poor appetite; tiredness; dull-pale complexion; weakness of the limbs; loose stools; thin body; pale lips

Pulse: Fine or choppy
Tongue: Pale and possibly slightly dry. The tongue will be thin in severe cases
Blood Differentiation
Blood Stagnation
Description (General):
Blood stagnation is where the normal flow of the blood has become obstructed. Stagnant blood can occur in the channels (usually due to trauma), or in the internal Zang Fu Organs, mainly the Liver, Heart, Uterus, Intestines, or Stomach. Heat in the blood also eventually causes blood to stagnate/congeal as does internal cold
Blood Differentiation
Blood Stagnation
Symptoms (General):
Stabbing fixed pain; dark complexion; purple lips and nails; dark blood and clots if there is bleeding

Jin Ye Differentiation
Jin Ye Deficiency
Causes (General):
Abnormal function of the organs, not producing Jin Ye, external pathogenic heat, loss of blood, chronic blood deficiency, vomiting, diarrhea, excessive urination and sweating, incorrect treatment, old age, weak and deficient constitution
Jin Ye Differentiation
Jin Ye Deficiency
Symptoms (General):
Dry mouth, throat, lips, nose, eyes, skin, emaciation, irritability, thirst, dry cough, hoarse voice, scanty and dark urination, dry stools
Jin Ye Differentiation
Accumulation of Yin Ye
Description (General):
The Lungs, Spleen, and Kidneys are the three organs that are most involved in the transformation and transportation of fluids

Description (General):

Jin Ye Differentiation
Phlegm
Main cause:
The main cause for the formation of phlegm is Spleen deficiency.
Jin Ye Differentiation
Phlegm
Kinds:
There are two kinds of phlegm. Substantial and Insubstantial.
Jin Ye Differentiation
Phlegm
Substantial Phlegm (Describe):
Mucus in the lungs
Jin Ye Differentiation
Phlegm
Insubstantial Phlegm (Describe):
- Under the skin (i.e. lumps, swollen lymph nodes, lipomas)
- In the channels (i.e. numbness such as in stroke)
- Misting the heart (i.e. schizophrenia, epilepsy, mania, depression)
- In the Gallbladder, Kidneys, or Urinary Bladder (stones)
