both parents belong to two different socially-designated races.
bi-racial
both bi-racial parents are identified with more than two racial groups.
multi-racial
Two or more types of families merging together; could be a family unit where parents have children from previous marriage, reconstituted to form a new one, step-parents and step-siblings or parents who may be in a same-sex or heterosexual relationship.
blended family
One or more members are temporarily separated from the rest of the family; may be due to military service, hospitalization, deportation, incarceration, amongst others.
conditionally-separated families
One or more children are not living in their own family of origin. The children are under the temporary care of another family.
foster family
Rainbow family; presence of two individuals who share same sexual orientation, rearing a child.
gay or lesbian family
Parents moved from another country and settled in.
immigrant family
Moves frequently from one place to another for various reasons.
