Fallacy
An argument or reasoning in which the conclusion does not follow from the premises.
Generalization
asserts that a claim is certain rather than probable.
Gerund
A verb used as a noun that ends in -ing.
Hyperbole
A deliberate exaggeration in order to create humor or emphasis.
Hypothesis
An unproved theory, proposition, or supposition.
Image
A word or words, either figurative or literal, used to describe a sensory expreience or an object perceived by the sense. An image is always a concrete representation.
Imagery
Includes words or phrases that use a collection of images to appeal to one or more of the five senses in order to create a mental picture.
Independent Clause
A group of words that contains a subject and verb and expresses a complete thought. Is a sentence.
Induction
The process that moves from a given series of specific to a geralization.
Inference
A verb that can function as a noun, adjective, or adverb.
Inversion
The reversing of the customary order of elements in a sentence or phrase.
Irony
The contrast between what is stated explicitly and what is really meant.
Issue
A debatable question that gives rise to different positions or stances.
Abstract
Language that describes concepts rather than concrete images.
Antithesis
The presentatoin of two contrasting images.
