It involves a profound change in the underlying assumptions, theories, methodologies, and conceptual frameworks that guide research, practice, or understanding in that field.
What is the root cause of the paradigm change that removed the structural limits on US power?
The collapse of the Soviet Union led the global acceptance of an ideological shift from communism to capitalism. In this case, the structural barrier that was broken down was bipolarity. The US was now supreme leader in a unipolar world.
How did the Cold War contribute to IR?
The Cold War made US foreign policy became interventionist. Think Gulf War. Before, the World Wars were defensive.
Did the Cold War contribute or undermine IR stability?
Many argue that the unipolar system was a very stable period in time. But maybe this period of stability was simply a simmering pot of water that is now overboiling. Look at the world today, it is a mess.
