Q10 Knee Joint 2 Flashcards
State the type of joint at the knee
Bicondylar synovial joint
How many articulations are at the knee joint
3 articulations
Briefly describe the tibial articular surface
Medial and lateral condyles on the superior aspect of the tibia/tibial plateau covered in hyaline cartilage, concave centrally and flatter in the periphery for attachment of menisci. Condyles separated by intercondylar eminences. Medial surface is larger A-P
Give the attachments and direction of the ACL
Attaches to the anterior intercondylar area of tibia and passes superiorly, posteriorly and laterally to attach to the posterior part of the medial surface of the lateral femoral condyle
Give the attachments and direction of the PCL
Attaches to the posterior intercondylar area of the tibia. It passes superiorly anteriorly and medially to attach to the anterior part of the lateral surface of the medial femoral condyle
What does the ACL and PCL prevent
ACL - prevents anterior displacement of the tibia on the fumur
PCL - prevents posterior displacement of the tibia on the fumur
