Q#4 CH 8 Flashcards
chapter 8.
what are two stages behavior will exist on?
steady state and transition state
what do we call when the stimulus control is as good as is ever going to get?
well establish stimulus
when is behavior in a steady state?
when is well establish stimulus (is as strong as it is going to get)
why did Lubin mother face planted in the floor after not riding a bike for many years?
The response was no longer in contact with the controlling contingency and the stimulus control begins to fade away.
when is a response in transition state?
when stimulus control is either developing or dissipated.
what causes a response to dissipate?
the time when the response no longer comes into contact with its controlling contingency (antecedent and consequence)
what is that can be developing or dissipated
stimulus control
how does stimulus control develop?
you need contingency contact
why do behavioral scientist want to know when the behavior reaches study state?
because it needs to be in a steady state before introducing a new condition.
what happens when you introduce a new condition in a transition state
it will be unclear as to whether or not any changes that occur in the new condition are due to the new condition or would happen anyway because stimulus control was still developing.
how do I know whether the stimulus control is in a steady state?
the presence of a trend whether increasing or decreasing indicates transition state. lack of trend is an indication of the steady state
what is Range of Variability?
The difference between the weakest measure of responding and the strongest measure of responding.
why wide Range of Variability is an indication of transition state.
stimulus control is developing because is all over the place.
Restricted range of variability are an indication of?
steady state
what is cyclicity?
a repeated pattern of variability
