MK-58 (MOD 0)
- yellow flame w/ white smoke
- aggregate weight: 4lbs and 13 1/2 ounces

**once armed, MK 58 must be used**
(TQ) Polystyrene container, two(2) MK58’s to the contrainer. A filled container weighs apprx. 28 lbs (NAVSEA SW050) P.265
(PYRO) to prevent false sighting reports….
unit’s OPCON shall send a Notice To Mariners(NTM) within 24 hours in advance stating the:
- time
- place
- pyro device being used.
(PYRO) monthly visual inspection
- two persons
- the Periodic Lot Report(PLR) may be completed.
(PYRO) weekly visual inspection
- one person
- MK 124: protective caps in place. Flares free of dents, bulging, and corrosion(light surface corrosion shall be cleaned with a dry soft cloth)
- MK 79: verify integrity of threads with an expended MK 80. one drop of light lubrication oil shall be applied to the MK 31(bandoleer) firing pin spring assemble as req’d.
(ORDNANCE TTP):
- Wipe non-water activated pyro with a moist clean cloth to remove salt & sand residues
- Wipe water-activated pyro with dry, clean cloth.
pyrotechnic storage
- vegitation within 50ft. of any PES(potential explosive site) shall be maintained at a height of no more than 18in. to create a firebreak, except where topography or other physical characteristics make this impossible.
- front wall clearance of 2ft. shall be maintained
- keep stacks 6in. off the walls and ceiling.
- where possible, pyro should be separated by:
1. Type
2. Color
3. Lot #
When transferring pyro what should not be used?
plastic bed liners because it can produce static electricity.
pyro logbooks
- kept in bound books
- start & end dates on outside of book
- black or blue ink
- hand written in ink - shall be retained aboard for a minimum of 3 years
(ORDNANCE TTP): Ensure the log’s front cover has the following informations:
- Type of log
- Unit name
- “FOUO”
- Log start and end dates
monthly inventory of pyro
- taken as close to the first day of the month as practical
- interval between monthly inventories shall be not less than 23 nor more than 35 calendar days.
(PYRO) authorized unaccompanied access
- designated in writing by the CO/OIC
- list shall be posted inside the small arms storage facility/space.
(PYRO) unauthorized access
- request permission, in writing, from the CO/OIC.
- escorted, at all times, by an individual authorized unaccompanied access to that space.
pyro keys
- shall be maintained separate from other keys
- shall be stored in a locker container as specified in the Physical Security and Force Protection Program.
(PYRO) procedures for missing/stolen items
- preliminary “quick look” (1-2 hours maximum)
- if not found within 4 hours, report missing or suspected stolen items to:
- local police dept.
- county sheriff or police
- District (cc) both OPCON & ADCON
- District (cc) shall notify Area (cc) and COMDT (cc) within 12 hours of discovery of the missing pyro. - send message within 12 hours of discovering the missing pyro.
(PYRO) unexploded ordnance
any unexploded ordnance is considered to be Hazardous Electromagnetic Radiation on Ordnance(HERO) susceptible. Observe HERO safety precautions by not transmitting on radios, transmitting radars or using cell phones within 500ft. of unexploded item.
any pyrotechnic malfunction or incident shall be reported….
