What does PUWER stand for?
Provision And Use of Work Equipment Regulations
This regulation covers
Any work equipment that is used for any process, including but not limited to :- Starting/stopping Programming/setting-up Transporting Repairing/servicing Modifying Cleaning
What is Required of the Equipment?
Suitable for the intended use
Safe for use
Maintained in a safe condition
Used only by people who have received adequate information, instruction and training
Accompanied by suitable Health and Safety measures
Inspected to ensure it is in adequate condition
When should work equipment be inspected?
Inspection of work equipment is needed to follow the regulations. These inspections should be carried out when;
The equipment is at a new location
After the equipment has been exposed to deteriorating conditions
After installation but before the equipment is in service
Suitable intervals that is liable to jeopardise safety.
(All of these inspections must be documented.)
What does PUWER require on equipment?
The equipment must have the following;
CE mark
A Declaration of Conformity
English instructions
And be free from obvious defects – and that it remains so during its working life
