Periods (.) and Ellipses (…)
At the end of an affirmative statement.
If the last word in the sentence ends in a period, do not follow with another period.
If some words are left out from a quote.
Comma (,)
Separate item in a series.
Before the coordinating conjunctions (for, and, nor, but, or, yet and so) unless the clause don’t have a subject or is less then 3 words.
After introductory elements.
Set off elements that interrupts a sentence.
Apostrophe (‘)
Form a possessive case of a singular or plural noun.
Show ommited letters in a contraction.
Semicolon (;)
Between complete sentence not joined with coordinating conjunction (for, and, nor, but, or, yet and so).
Independent clauses joined.
Between item in a series if the item contain commas.
Colon (:)
Use to mean «note what follows.»
Times that don’t use the 24-hours clock.
Hyphen (-)
Divide a word between syllables.
Hyphenate a compound adjective when it precedes the word it modifies.
Quotation marks («»)
For parts of other works.
Titles and television episode (but not the television shows) are surroundef by quotation marks.
Set off a direct quotation.
Mark words used ironically.
