What do exclamation marks do?
It expresses strong emotions (happiness, anger, etc.).
What are the effects of an exclamation mark?
To emphasise and show emotion.

It shows a question is being asked.
What do colons do?
It replaces “because”, to begin a list of three.
What do semicolons do?
It replaces “and” (to connect two independent clauses).
What do brackets do?
It adds extra information.
What are effects of brackets?
To show what a character/the author is thinking.
To make the information more personal.
To bring the reader closer to the writer.
What are the uses of ellipsis?
To use a quote without using the whole quote.
To show a change in time/setting.
To indicate a cliffhanger/suspense/leave the reader thinking about the piece.
